Gyakie has emerged as the first and only African music artist who is a member of the inaugural class of EQUAL, an initiative by Spotify, the world’s biggest streaming service. The program is tailored towards projecting female music artists around the world.
“I am deeply honoured to be the first African woman to partner with Spotify for EQUAL. This is huge for so many women across the continent and the entire globe. I don’t take this lightly at all,” Gyakie said in a press release.
Award-winning Ghanaian singer, Gyakie, the daughter of legendary highlife musician, Nana Acheampong (also of Lumba Brother’s fame, has made history with this feature on EQUAL, which comes after a number of huge international accomplishments she has made over the past few months.
Gyakie’s first major breakthrough was ranking at number four on Billboard’s Top Triller in February 2021 with her original “Forever” hit song. In April 2021, the remix of the song which features Nigerian artist, Omah Lay, moved up to number three ahead of a song by Jennifer Lopez and just behind a song by Cardi B.
