I took it in good faith because that wasn’t the first time I had the whole class discuss me like a topic for a test. I tried to bury myself in my books while paying little or no attention to what was going on. Most people thought I had a thick skin but the fact was that experience had taught me a lot. Just like the night, it never lasts. I didn’t try defending myself or reporting anyone to a teacher. I listened to every rumor, every lie they had to fabricate and I only laughed. Not because it wasn’t hurting but I was concentrating on the bright side of it. The more the lies continued, the more people feared and respected me. Even though I never really wanted both, I had no option.
“Hey class, settle down for a class test….” Miss Faustina announced and walked away graciously. She had been one of the teachers I admired a lot since I came to the school. On any day, she wouldn’t look at me twice so in order to get her attention, I always excel in her subject (English). Truth be told, I was academically good and needed not to break a sweat in passing her test but when it comes to her subject, I leave no stone unturned. I had a crush on her but never said it out loud. Even the thought of it was punishable, imagine saying it out loud. I keep it to myself throughout my days in school. Sometimes, I would sit by the window just to see her walk away. She walked with so much elegance and if you are one who appreciates nature like myself, you might be tempted to tell her how you feel. She was in her early 30s with no rings. That even encouraged me more to fantasize about a family with her. Most often than not, I go to bed having wet dreams with her as my wife. As expected, I pretended I was just a normal hardworking student. My heart was full of unspoken love and hate. Sometimes it marvels me how those two could survive together under one roof.
The class test came off and as usual, I topped the class. The questions weren’t about what she taught in class so I took her by surprised. She invited me to the teacher’s common room, offered me a seat next to her and my heart started racing. My hand was visibly shaking so I hid it under the table. She noticed the fact that I was nervous so she asked me to relax. “You are not in any trouble Saint. I really just want to encourage you to keep doing what you are doing.” She said. Trust me, when she dotted her sentence, the first thing that came to mind was my uncontrolled crush on her. I wondered if she had seen me spying on her or occasionally following her. My hopes were as high as the heavens so I never ruled out any possibilities. “Try and find a way to at least to help one or two of your mates. You are good, but it yields no good if you can’t help people with it…” She clarified and it dawned on me she was talking about academics and not herself. Immediately, I lost interest in the topic. “Is she expecting me to force people to read when they don’t want to? My friend stop wasting my time and let’s talk about something important…” I said to myself without moving a muscle. “Take, these are students I have decided you take as learning mates. I want to see an effort effectively from today. I have spoken to them already…” She handled a piece of paper to me and the only thing I could imagine was me putting a ring on that golden finger of hers. I was reluctant, not because I did not want to tutor them but I wanted to admire her hands more. She brought me back to reality when she mentioned my name again to take the paper from her. I did quickly and left. If I had spent a second more, I would have disgraced myself. My mind was sending a message to my lower body which would have been an interesting scene.
I opened the piece of paper when I got to class and to my amusement, there was no single guy on the List. They were ladies I have never spoken to. “This will be interesting…” I said to myself…. (Story Continues)
