For some unknown reason, she liked me too. Even though I knew she was trying to do the work of God in a smart way, something was not right about her approach. It wasn’t a wrong approach so to say but I felt there was more to it than just soul winning. I wasn’t the only soul she visited but with me, things were quite different. I have tried to justify it but I knew too well to bother my head over irrational things such as feelings. So I played along, stared back, smiled back, hug her tight occasionally and all. After all, we are all human. Being her friend, I decided to follow her to some few visitations and soul winning. I wasn’t committed and zealous about it like her colleagues but I was always there. It was during one of those visitations that I met Lordina.
She was comfortably sleeping in a guy’s bed. A guy who later revealed he was in L300. When she saw me, she was surprised, anxious and uncomfortable. Her body language sold her out. I was with Irene so I kept a calm head. But I wasn’t happy she saw me that way. She would probably conclude that because I had HIV, I decided to turn on a new leaf. She might probably spread the rumor so far that I might be stigmatized. After leaving the room, I knew I had to show her the result but this time, not to tell her she was wrong for leaving me. That evening I didn’t go to Irene’s even though she called severally to ask me to come. I had to disappoint her in order to see Lordina.
“Saint, it’s not what you think ok. I was going through a lot and had to stay away for awhile. I needed space and it wasn’t because of what you are going through…” She started explaining herself as soon as she let me in. “What am I going through? I told you my fears but unlike you, I face my devils head on, I don’t run from them. Have it, maybe you can stop running now.” I gave her the result and left her room without any extra words. Her roommates were surprised and only looked on. I was sure she shared the my scare with them. That night, she called me countless times but I didn’t answer nor reply her messages. I was keen on moving on without her. Such people drain you without giving anything in return. I tried to move on but the harder I tried the more I felt the edge to be with her. In order to fight that, I decided to take a walk. I didn’t want to be with Irene either. I went to the heart of the city, with determination to get wasted and sleep over at a guesthouse. Kumasi was known for its vibrancy so when I got to town, I didn’t have to suffer to get what I wanted. I was sitting alone in a corner of the bar when a lady walked over to me. Initially, I thought it was the waitress because of the manner in which she approached me. I later found out she wasn’t waiting on me but waiting for me to ask her out. Beauty wasn’t a problem, she had everything I could ask for. I offered her a chair and asked for a drink. I ordered one for her and watched her finished it as if it was just water. Soon, she removed a white substance from her bag which I later found out was cocaine. All this while, I was just observing her with admiration. She acted as if she had zero problems. She was happy, smiling and eager to try something.
“If I must do this, I have to break down my walls a little….” I said to my self as I drew closer to try the cocaine…. (Story Continues)
